For a longer read, Jane Jacobs’ “Systems of Survival: A Dialogue on the Moral Foundations of Commerce and Politics” uses a story telling approach to describe the mutually exclusive behaviours required by businesses which exist to generate revenue, versus those in existence to serve a community need. Although Jane focuses on the Government sector the message is equally significant to non-profits. You can find a good synopsis of her book on Wikepedia.
